Can I had dat?

Plaid

Nothing wrong with plaid. Growing up, my mother has always been a huge plaid fan, whether it was dressing my sisters up for church in kilts, or decorating my dad's den in floor to ceiling plaid. And I suppose some of that has rubbed off on me. I love little hints of plaid here and there. It's as if the patterns are so classic, that they add an authenticity or legitimacy of style. One of my favorite pieces I own is a 1960's fire engine-red plaid blanket that I will take with me wherever I live. Holes and all.

San Fran State of Mind

Kind of wish I was here right now...

Vibrant Upholstered Chairs

I am a firm believer that a single vibrant fabric can carry a room. Even if nothing else matches with it, the character and design of the fabric can almost always make a room. I pulled a couple favorites from this season to share.

Pink

I'm not usually such a fan of the color, but with Valentine's Day approaching, seems sort of fitting. It's a daring color for a room, I'd say. But some of these examples are quite elegant. And hey, even if you wouldn't want to base a whole room around it, there's something nice about painting your staircase whatever color fits your mood.

Roland Bello

Today's inspiration stems from the genius photographer, Roland Bello. I wish I could live in the world that Bello captures through his lens. I could get lost in his interiors collection, and his still lifes seem to make everything simple, clean, crisp, beautiful. Everything in his photographs is so appropriately placed, like they belong in that exact position, untouched. There is such a polished and sophisticated finish to each of his photographs that I find really engaging. Anyways, I hope you enjoy. Happy Friday.

Weekend Friend!

I get to play with this little monkey all weekend! Woot woot! Everyone, meet the Katester.

Kathleen Burlew Designs

Attention one and all (brides especially!): My beloved KEB has recently updated her design company's website and I wanted to share. Kathleen specializes in customized paper goods, designing and printing beautiful invitations, stationary, announcements... you name it! Her work encompasses simple elegance and I strongly recommend checking out her look-book and blog. If you're in the DC area, schedule a meeting! Or if elsewhere and you have an event coming up that could use a bit of her charm, definitely give her a shout. As a close family friend, Kathleen worked on my sister's announcement and we all could not have been more pleased with the final product. Love love love!

Accent Awesomeness

I'd like to think I'm daring enough to paint a door in my home acid green or the trim of my walls turquoise. I love the design choice of bold accent colors. Not only does is say a lot about a room, but it says a lot about the owner. Daring. Unique. Creative. No holds barred? I dig it. Attached are some favorites I've found along the way. From now on, consider this blog to be the vault of things I like. A piggy bank of "stuff" to inspire me (and hopefully others) to make their own design leaps. Enjoy.

Stationary

I ran out of thank-you notes and need new ones. Which set do you guys like? I'm partial to initials... but I can't decide!
